Synopsys Welcomes 14 New Companies to IP Catalyst Program
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 3, 2001--Synopsys,
Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS) today announced that 14 new companies have joined
the Synopsys IP Catalyst alliance program for independent intellectual
property (IP) providers. Partners in the Synopsys IP Catalyst Program
evaluate the reusability of their soft IP core offerings using the
popular Open Measure of Reuse Excellence (OpenMORE) assessment
program, which was recently donated to the Virtual Socket Interface
Alliance (VSIA) by Synopsys and Mentor Graphics. Using the OpenMORE
assessment program, the companies will evaluate their IP for
reusability. The results -- OpenMORE ratings of one to four stars --
will be published in the Synopsys IP Catalyst Catalog, which can be
accessed at no charge from the company's Web page:
http://www.synopsys.com/ipcatalyst.
The new IP Catalyst members are: Aria Research, The Athena Group,
AXEON Limited, Duolog Technologies, Jennic, Mobilygen, Corp. (formerly
QuArc, Inc.), NewLogic Technologies, picoTurbo, Inc., RC Module,
Siroyan, Synad Technologies Ltd., Virtual IP Group, Vulcan Machines,
and ZSP Division of LSI Logic Inc. The companies' IP spans a wide
range of cores and technologies, from network management processors to
third-generation wireless communications technology. There are now
over 40 IP companies participating in Synopsys' IP Catalyst program.
The IP Catalyst Catalog includes more than 100 OpenMORE-rated cores
from over 32 IP Catalyst partners. In addition, more than 150 cores
have been rated since the programs' inception in 1998.
``In this age of system-on-chip (SoC) technology and tight
time-to-market windows, IP must not only perform as intended, it must
be reusable as well,'' said Alex Font, product marketing manager at
3DSP, a leader in configurable, scalable digital signal processor
(DSP) cores. ``By applying the OpenMORE ratings to our products, we can
assure customers that our IP can be used and reused successfully in
subsequent designs.''
``With the IP block as the cornerstone of the SoC design
experience, it is critical to deliver quality IP,'' said Dr. Jon
Mellott, The Athena Group's CTO. ``Joining the IP Catalyst Program is
one of the best ways we have found to bolster our customers'
confidence and ensure they get the product quality they want.''
``Millions of dollars are spent every year on IP. Understanding the
reusability of an IP core contributes greatly to the success of SoC
projects,'' said Laura Horsey, IP Catalyst program manager for
Synopsys. ``The IP Catalyst Program, through OpenMORE, enables the
industry-wide adoption of a proven design reuse methodology that
provides a valuable solution for the evaluation and purchase of IP.''
About IP Catalyst and OpenMORE
IP Catalyst partners agree to allow Synopsys to publish an
OpenMORE rating of their IP in the web-based IP Catalyst Catalog. The
ratings are based on the OpenMORE IP assessment program that evaluates
how well IP design processes follow the Reuse Methodology Manual's
approximately 150 rules and guidelines for the creation, verification
and delivery of soft and hard IP. IP developers can use their OpenMORE
rating to distinguish their IP from first-generation IP, which was
often difficult, risky and time-consuming to integrate. The OpenMORE
assessment program simplifies the evaluation of the quality and
reusability of IP cores. The assessment program, which has more than
3,000 users, was developed by Synopsys and Mentor Graphics Corp. and
is now administered by VSIA. It is available at no charge for use by
IP developers and IP purchasers, and can be downloaded from VSIA's web
site at: http://www.vsi.org, which links to the OpenMORE web site at:
